Ego Trip Magazine: Issue #1 featuring ‘Nasty’ Nas (1994)

ego-trip-1-nas

I had searched the ends of the internet for the very first issue of Ego Trip magazine and couldn’t find it. But thanks to my European connection (Jo in Germany), he came through for us again. Please send him a shout out in the comment section showing your appreciation. He may even send a few more issues for us. Also, he’s looking for some old Source magazines to purchase (issues 1-19, 33-39, 43, 69, 76, 78-80 and 85). If you have them or know someone else willing to sell them, then please leave a comment with your e-mail address so that he can contact you.

  22. word booty! I never read this one. Ego Trip’s were hard to come by for me and it was always a special thing if I got one, but it’s probably my all-time favorite hip hop magazine though

  23. this is why i love your blog! you bring me back!

    thank you!

  24. Looking for that password for the 1st Issue of Ego Trip. I only read one issue back in the day. The blog looks ill

  25. hey nice where’s the link?

  26. Turntable Lab in L.A. has Ego Trip mags. I picked up one from summer ’96 (vol.2, no. 5) that I’d be happy to scan and email for people.

The issue is great. Warren Coolidge (?) writes an amazing dual album review of It Was Written and Reasonable Doubt in which he basically states that both dudes are really good, but Nas had to be the label’s bitch and Jay-Z didn’t because he had Roc-a-fella. Due to having more creative control and the potential to make more money, Coolidge predicts in 1996 that Jay-Z will have a much better career than Nas. Can you say prescient?

There’s also good articles on Ghostface and Heather Hunter.

    • @Matthew – I have that Ego Trip issue right here. I’ll be scanning it soon.

  27. Awesome!

  28. Thanks so much for sharing!

  29. Thanks Very Much For Are These Large Covers ..

But Please Please Can You Remove Those Texts In The Covers , Because I Dont Look Good .
